Changing the World One Person at a Time/November 2020 Update

I don’t know about you, but 2020 has me regularly thinking about the world and my impact on it. We live in a weird and sometimes scary world, but as people of faith we know that our hope is not in culture, politics, or world events. Our hope is in Jesus who came to this earth, lived as a man, died a criminal’s death, and was raised to life again so that we can know and be known by God, this is the hope that as Christians we are called to share with the world around us. This year has brought with it so much trauma and difficulty and it has been a challenge to figure out the best way to be a source of light and hope in a world that is collectively feeling so hopeless.

Politics, social movements, and culture are important parts of the world and we ought to do our best to represent our faith well through them, but the more I see of the world and the people in it, the more I become convinced that the best way to change the world is one person at a time. In our lives we will have the opportunity to build many relationships, and hopefully some of them are with people whose lives and world views differ from our own. In each of these relationships we have the opportunity to share the hope and love of God with someone else.

In his book “Everybody, Always”, the author Bob Goff, suggests that we quit trying to define things as “ministry” and instead call them Tuesday.  Formal “ministry” opportunities are important–things like church services, small groups, and outreaches–but the more I serve with and interact with others, the more I am convinced that our coffee “dates”, game nights, and meals spent with friends and potential friends are our greatest opportunities to change the world.

Serving in a formal ministry position, especially as a partnership supported missionary, means that I spend a lot more time than I would like trying to figure out how to capture the kind of ministry opportunities that make for a good newsletter, but the truth is as a partner you are a part of more “Tuesdays” and you are “ministry opportunities”. You are a part of every Sunday afternoon lunch that I forget to take a photo of, every afternoon spent sending welcome emails to people who filled out a connect card on Sunday, every evening spent cooking family dinner so young adults can come together to eat, play games, and feel at home.

My prayer is that you are finding Tuesday opportunities in your life as you interact with friends, family members, and coworkers whose lives you have privilege of being a source of hope in. In addition to impacting your world, I hope you are helping equip others to go out and impact the world in ways that you cannot, whether you’re serving on my partnership team or on someone else’s. How are you changing the world around you and the world beyond? Join the Team as a World Changer

Give: I still need people like you who are willing to commit to $5 or more a month to equip me to do ministry and Tuesdays in Hungary, to engage and equip young adults with the Good News and go out to change the world around them, but in order to do that I have to raise about $1000 more in monthly commitments. If you would like to join in changing the world through everyday interactions with young adults from all over the world, I would love to have you on my team. Can’t commit to give monthly but still want to financially support? I also have a significant portion of my cash (one-time) budget to raise. Whether you can give $5 or $500 you are an important part of ministry and Tuesdays.

Give Now

Pray: Pray that I would get fully funded and back to Hungary when I am meant to. God has proven to me time and time again that he gets us where we need to be when we need to be there. I am believing that is true this time too, and though I really hope that I get to return in January it is also my prayer that I would get there when He is ready for me to do so. I also need to meet the right people and build a full team to financially support my return to Hungary, please pray that the right people would be called, equipped, and blessed to join my financial partnership team.

Pray for Hungary as they enter a season of increased COVID-19 restrictions including business closures, banning group gatherings (and potentially church gatherings), school closures, and a curfew. Pray for Riverside to find opportunities to be a hope to the community, even if that hope is over the internet, and for those who are facing fear and uncertainty in this season.

Connect: If you’re a part of this team, I hope that means you’re invested in me getting back to Hungary, but in order for that to happen I need help making new connections with people who might be interested in partnering with me. You can help by connecting me with your pastors, ministry leaders, friends, and family who might be interested in joining the team.
Giving Tuesday 2020 is coming up on December 1st and is a great opportunity to help me connect with your social network, by sharing posts and inviting people to find out more. December 1st is Giving Tuesday 2020 and people around the world will be investing their money in the things that they believe are going to change the world. How are you going to join in the movement? If you haven’t decided yet, I encourage you to consider joining my team and helping me reach my Giving Tuesday goal of reaching 75% of each my monthly & cash budgets. $50/mo or $150 cash are common amounts for example, but any amount that you are able to give is a world changing amount.

This past Sunday a child gave me a dollar from his allowance, and he is helping change the world. I am excited to see what God is going to do through that kid, and I am excited to see what God is going to do through you as you partner in changing the world one person at a time.

Giving Tuesday, in case you don’t know, is celebrated on the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving weekend can be exciting, you have black Friday shopping, Small Business Saturday, & Cyber Monday. They’re a lot of fun and a great way to get good deals on the gifts you’ve been saving for. #GivingTuesday is different, it’s a day to join people all over the globe in giving back and investing in the things that they believe are going to change the world. Giving Tuesday is a great time to be a part of a global movement to change the world by giving a one-time gift or making a monthly commitment, by praying for the right people to be a part of my Giving Tuesday goal, and by inviting your friends and family to join the movement by sharing posts & videos. In whatever way you decide to be a part of changing the world from the heart of Budapest, I would love to talk to you more about what that will look like and answer any questions you might have. You can find all my contact information below or click here to send me an email.

Thank you so much for joining me on my Journey In Missions!
